When creative design agency White Bear Studio wanted top-notch recognition for their incredible brand and design work, they set their sights on the DBA Design Effectiveness Awards.
And in October 2024 they were named as one of just three Gold winners, based on an entry written by the Awards Writers team.
That’s no mean feat. The prestigious DBA Awards are acknowledged as the pinnacle of proving that design really can drive commercial success. If you meet the criteria, you’re given a Bronze, Silver or Gold award, but there are no quotas for how many are awarded each year – you either meet the high bar, or you don’t.
White Bear is a brand and creative agency for challengers. With a clutch of other industry awards under their belt, they felt they had the perfect case study for the DBAs in their work to rebrand and reposition Tom Parker Creamery.
Getting under the skin of the awards story
Calls with the end client and White Bear team helped us uncover the story we wanted to tell – one of design supporting the transformation of the way a business works. White Bear’s already award-winning insightful brand strategy work had uncovered the point of difference Tom Parker Creamery always had, but didn’t shout about – its strong position as a supplier of free-range dairy products using only natural ingredients.
The DBAs are known to have a rigorous process which goes beyond brand aesthetics and makes entrants show the link between brand and commercial success. From analysing industry and sector trends, to getting down into the detail of sales volumes and listings, the Awards Writers team created a comprehensive written entry which told the story of White Bear’s involvement in Tom Parker Creamery’s success.
The fresh, fun and thoughtful new brand created by White Bear had supported Tom Parker Creamery’s acceptance on to the Sainsbury’s Future Brands programme, opening the door to a trial listing in 100 stores which swiftly became 230, then more than 700 stores UK-wide as well as listings in Waitrose and Ocado. No small transformation for a brand which previous sold at farmers’ markets and via doorstep delivery service, Milk&More.
“The Awards Writers team was really comprehensive in the way they approached putting the entry together,” says Dave Enderson, managing director at White Bear Studio. “From analysing what was going on in the segment to digging deep with our end client about what the rebrand had delivered, they were thorough at every step and took away all of the work of writing a serious award entry.
“We’re delighted that all of the effort has paid off with our Gold DBA Award Design effectiveness is at the heart of all our work, and there’s no better way to prove that than through a DBA award.”
